With my wife, practicing for wedding photos
Hi, I’m Andy Peace!
I am currently taking a break from work to explore other priorities like spending time with my daughter, hobbies I’ve not been able to pursue for some time, and generally being curious. Professionally, I am a software developer. I’ve worked at a variety of companies mostly in the cloud/infrastructure space (XenSource, Citrix, AWS), and on a variety of technologies (S3 being the one you’ve probably heard of). My last role was as a Principal Engineer at AWS, having previously managed teams both at AWS and elsewhere.
This blog started when I was curious about whether I could automate my boiler and create a Google Nest-like experience without the hardware. I’ve been running the software I wrote to do that for over a decade with very few problems, and I also credit it with helping me to learn the basics of building cloud services (having previously worked on the lower-level side of things — hypervisors and operating systems software). Today I write about both technical and work-related topics interspersed with other things that I got “curious” about at the time.
Outside of coding, I’m currently learning to play the piano, and have done a lot of work alongside my wife renovating our 1930s house, completely (when it’s finished!) remodelling the interior to reflect a more modern aesthetic.
You might also find me on a hill somewhere in the Peak District or Lake District, out running around Cambridge, or at the pub with friends.
